Medium: Fiber

Artwalk 2018 Location: Literacy Council of Central Alabama, 2301 1st Avenue North

I grew up in a small town near Brussels, Belgium. I started painting and creating things as early as I can remember.

At the age of 18, I lived in Alabama as an exchange student and fell in love with the warm people and weather. I returned to Belgium to get a college degree in graphic design and advertising.

At the age of twenty-five, after working as a copywriter, an art director, and countless small jobs before that, I came back to Birmingham with everything I owned in two suitcases.

In 1998, I quite my job in advertising and opened Naked Art on a shoestring.

I feel that running an art gallery, and being constantly surrounded by creativity has allowed me to continuously evolved my work over the years.

I have experimented and will continue experimenting with many mediums.

Currently I am focusing on layered mixed media paintings in which I incorporate paint, pen, and pencil with strips that I’ve torn from street posters, book, books, magazines or whatever feels right at the time. The characters in my paintings come from sketches that I’ve made of people I know or see in ooks, magazines, advertisements or found pictures.
