Medium: Painting

Artwalk 2016 Location: Gallery Lofts, 2412 2nd Avenue N

I have lived my entire life in Northeast Mississippi and I have been creating since childhood. My full time job is in advertising, so I paint most of my artwork on the weekend.

In 1995, giving painting a try, I finished two successful acrylic paintings and I loved it. A friend talked me into trying a watercolor class and to this day, it is my media of choice. However, I do venture into acrylic, oil and mixed media, but my main focus is watercolor and ink.

My favorite subject is the southern landscape, and inspiration comes from Mississippi nature and nostalgia. Currently, I am working on simple watercolor and ink illustrations, and mixed media works of scenes in the south. My technique involves saturating the paper or canvas with water, applying the paint and then removing portions of the paint to leave white areas. Then, I add more paint and lastly ink or charcoal for to bring out the detail.

In 2008, I opened my online business named Shelley Roze Art, on the website My work has been featured in the publication Cloth, Paper, Scissors magazine, October 2009, and in the special premier publication PAGES, November 2011.

My paintings are on exhibit at the Corinth Artist Guild Gallery, Corinth, MS and The Caron Art Gallery, Tupelo, MS.
