I grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, and from an early age learned to appreciate nature by going on hunting trips with my father. It did not matter if it was for squirrels, deer, turkey or doves. I just grew up to love the outdoors and all of its beauty. I have been an amateur photographer for the past 30 years, and while I have been expanding into new arenas, the majority of my work is nature related. The same techniques I formally used in hunting are very applicable to taking nature photos. It often requires a lot of patience, as well as being still and quiet.
My photos predominantly fall under the categories of wildlife, landscapes, sunsets, flowers and butterflies. I use a Canon Rebel, with my 70 – 300mm lens allowing me to stand back far enough to not scare of butterflies, etc., and my 500mm lens helping me get closer to more distant wildlife. I only use basic processing in order to keep the photos as realistic as possible.
My wife Judy and I moved from Missouri to Birmingham, Alabama in September 2015. We love the photo opportunities in Alabama, many afforded by the many hills and waterways.
