Rachel Bates is a textile and fiber artist who has resided in Birmingham, Alabama since 1996. She inherited a love of needle arts and quilting from her mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. The influence of the Birmingham art community led her to experiment with traditional and modern fiber and textile techniques that include hand dying, weaving, charcoal mark-making, sketch acrylics and watercolors. Her primary emphasis is imagery and portraiture. Her work as DizzyNeedle has been included in exhibits at East Lake Artist Village, Space One Eleven, Celeste Pfau’s The Living Room, and Around the Block: A Show About Quilts and the Black Cherry Tree Project 2023. She also displays her work at area art fairs and festivals.
