In contrast to her paintings, she creates functional pottery using white stoneware and porcelain clay. Art is very therapeutic for Janna. It is a way for her to express, question, and reflect on life and her surroundings.
Janna lives in Crestwood North, Birmingham, AL and works out of her detached art studio.
Artist Statement: My paintings are inspired by southern landscapes and elements of nature. Marking new beginnings, my artwork reflects seasons and time. The paintings are created using water-soluble oil paints on wood panel boards. For my larger pieces, I build my own boards and use a clear or tinted gesso as the base. Building up multiple thin layers of paint, I create the illusion of depth. I use a combination of references from life, my imagination, and photographs to make each piece.
