Jeff S. Hughes

My name is Jeff Hughes, I live in The Bluff Park community of Hoover, Ala. I began my interest in art at a very early age drawing cartoon characters and many other objects that caught my eye. In High School I took several years of art and mechanical drawing instruction. I then moved on to a Junior College and continued interest in drawing even to a point of being commissioned by my Biology Professor to draw a group of Chimpanzees using straws to forage for ants in mounds. It was my understanding that these drawings where used for many years to explain that phenomenon. From there, I attended the University of Alabama studying Art as my major, after two years I transferred to UAB and completed my studies.

About ten years ago I began using acrylics and oils in my work and my love affair with creating Art soared dramatically. I’m now retired from the business world and I dedicate much of my time to my Art. I derive so much pleasure interacting with patrons who visit my display booth and on Facebook. It’s a joy to pass on my knowledge and expertise to people, especially young people who, like me, love the creative process of Art. My work is varied, but I paint mostly in a post-impressionist style with broad brush strokes and palette knives. I have also created a style I’ve termed “Enhanced Pointillism” that is unique to me!
