“Justin Stokes is a mixed media illustrator and feral folk artist from Birmingham, Alabama. Working with inks, pencils, acrylics, oils, digital drawing, photography, and clay sculpture, he moves between and often blends mediums to explore new textures and ideas. He especially loves blending traditional hand-drawn materials along with digital color and finishing techniques.

Inspired by a fondness for historical artifacts, curiosities, and subcultures, his work focuses on themes of 物の哀れ (mono no aware), optimistic nihilism, and existential humor. Combining high-brow and low-brow influences, he frequently uses familiar subjects to tease out more complex ideas and encourage viewers to revisit questions they didn’t know they could ask or forgot that they had. He ain’t that good, but he ain’t half bad.”
