Cedric T. Sands Jr., also known as Sed, is a self-taught, free-lance artist who currently lives and works in McCalla, Alabama. A native of Miami, Florida, his colorful paintings and unique woodwork pay homage to his upbringing. His distinctive personal style derives joy and expresses the vibrant spirit and atmosphere of both the African and Caribbean culture. Abstract realism, well known (and unknown) faces, and even exotic animals are all brought to life on both canvas and wood, with contrasting and harmonious colors and bold compositions. As the artist explains, “I am a visual artist. Show me anything and I can make it come to life.”
As a child, Sed never embraced his innate talent. It wasn’t until college that he recognized his unique ability to transform idea to reality, becoming a local urban t-shirt designer. Sed started Design Freaks, LLC in his bedroom and would go on to participate in numerous fashion shows, music videos and print work. After meeting his wife, Nikol, an Active-Duty Service member, Design Freaks was dissolved and Lov3 Art Gall3ry, LLC was born.
Sed now specializes in custom commissioned pieces ranging from carved wood and canvas to furniture and rugs. Since moving to the Magic City, Sed has had the pleasure to work with many businesses by adding his art to their commercial spaces. His most recent mural can be seen in Avondale at Munchies on 5th. Sed’s artwork has been shown in exhibitions in Miami, Atlanta, and the Carolinas. One of his paintings was featured at the Fayetteville Arts Council where he was an emerging artist grant recipient. Sed is the proud father of three and co-owner of 3C Entertainment, LLC, a party and event rental company, and continues to perfect his craft by taking local and online classes.
