Veronique Vanblaere
Medium: Mixed Media
Location: Cochran Law Firm
Véronique Vanblaere, aka Véro, a Belgian artist in Alabama, works in fiber art: she sews and creates wearable art, reworking and revamping second-hand clothing with her original drawings transposed to fabric and adding various elements to give the garments a new style and life. Globally, fashion is the second most polluting industry after the oil and gas sector. All clothing, materials and sewing supplies are reused to make a statement: it’s time to change our habits.
Because old ways won’t open new doors, Véro has many mediums: she constructs soft sculpture in the form of extravagant hats and luminaries which have become part of larger art installations. She paints murals, has written and directed animation films spotlighting her drawings and puppets, and she constantly creates offbeat illustrations, often while traveling the world.
Her work has been featured at Miami Art Basel, Harvard University and the Cannes Film Festival.
